We've all achieved what we have in life with the help of others – by standing on the shoulders of giants as the old saying goes. Well how broad are your shoulders? Here at the Academic Community we are considering a program to help encourage mentoring among our members. We'll focus on parallelism content to start with, the idea being that those who are already engaged with putting parallelism into their course material and are active members of the Academic Community would contact other members who are just beginning to engage.
Mentoring could mean offering a connection, help and encouragement for sharing of ideas or the creation of parallel resources for the classroom. We'd very much like to see this result in members who are not as engaged, becoming more engaged, creating and contributing content to the Academic Exchange, using the Manycore Testing Lab to scale course work, blogging on topics relevant to those teaching computer science worldwide and more. In short, we’d like to empower more faculty to bring parallelism into their classrooms.
In turn, mentoring would be a great way to accumulate points and move up from Green Belt to Brown Belt Belt. Significant mentoring activity could even help pave the way to a black belt nomination. We'd also consider other means such as grants or rewards for special mentoring projects, perhaps those resulting in collaboration leading to publication in journals or papers delivered.
